You can clean bad credit on your own if you follow this guide.

It can be very hard and costly to receive a mortgage, auto loan, credit cards or other credits if your credit score is poor. You can clean bad credit and this will save you a lot on payments and interest rates.

* Making late payments lowers your credit score. Payment history has the most affect on your credit score. It is imperative to make your payments on time in order to clean bad credit.

* Secondly pay down the balances. Begin with the more recent ones as the older ones will not affect your credit as much.

* Avoid applying for new credit, as this will drive down your score if you have recent bad credit on your report.

* Your creditors can change the report wording. Call or send letters to them asking them to do this. “Seriously Late” could be replaced with “Slow Payment” and so on. Records are kept for only 13-18 months for most of the credit card companies. * Section 611d states you are entitled a free corrected report from the credit bureau. If you do not receive one then send a letter.

Take care of your finances, if you are going to be late on a payment, call before the payment is due, pay down your account balances and dispute any suspected error you find in the report in order for your scores to improve.
