Lighting fixtures have this uncanny ability to make even the average structures stand out. If one wants to spruce up their living room’s appearance drastically, one can actually op for an aesthetically designed Chandelier. Chandeliers can instantly add a great dose of sparkle and glamor in any house or building.
But, if you want to install chandelier in your house, you have to run wires into the ceiling and install separate breakers. People those who don’t want messing up with the wire, can now convert their chandelier into swag lights.
Changing the existing chandelier into plug- in type swag lights involves no complicated wiring or tools. Kits to convert the chandelier into the swag lights are available at the home improvement stores. Homeowners can carry out the project without hiring the expert.
Two wires that extend up to the chandelier needs to be stripped off. Make use of the wire stripper to remove at least one inch of the wire insulation from both the wires. Even if the wires are stripped, there are some marking or the color on the wires, just look for them as these will be needed while making the connections to the chandelier. Now, make the connections with those wires and the electric cord that has come with the kit. Insulate them with the electric tape from the end.
Now, the next step is to install the cord cover. In order to cover all the electrical wires, cover them with the cord cover. Further, thread the cord with the chain so as to hang the fixture with the ceiling.
Chandeliers, due to heavy weight are always at greater risk of fall. In order to avoid such accidents, these are properly installed to the ceiling stud. Generally, a hook is fastened to the ceiling stud or the joist to ensure strong grip at the ceiling. Install one more hook on the ceiling near to the electric outlet.
To the first ceiling hook that was installed earlier, hang the chandelier. The remaining cord cover or the chain is now to be draped over to the second ceiling hook. This is done to support the heavy chandelier.
Plug in the electrical cord to the outlet, and test the chandelier by turning it on. For the working of the chandelier, it is very essential that you properly match the wires as positive terminal to positive and negative to negative.
