Free Money for a College Education

by Cora May Waldorf

Will you be going to college within the next few years or are you already in college? Are you looking for ways to pay for it? There’s no better time than the present to start looking for ways to make money for college.

It costs a lot of money to go to college. After tuition adds up with all the fees and room and board, you can expect to pay a lot of money. Some colleges have tuition fees that are just outrageous.

One way to cut down costs is to go to a cheaper school. If you went to a community college first for two years and than transferred to your favorite more expensive school, you spend a lot less and still get that degree from the other school.

There are lots of people who would never go to a state school because, well, I have no idea. Unless you are extremely smart and need to go to an Ivy League college, the cost of a college will not decide it’s prestige or value of it’s degrees. I’m sorry to break it to you, but it means nothing.

You can start getting money for college by saving. The more you save now the less you’ll have to save later. Also, the sooner you start saving for college, the more you’ll have saved.

Now for the free stuff. You can get money for college without saving. The main way to do this is to get scholarships and grants for your college education.

Anyone can apply for scholarships, as long as you meet the criteria. There are tons of scholarships available out there, you just need to know where to look.

Go to your guidance counselor and ask them for information on all the scholarships they know of including local ones. Apply for everything, even if it’s just $50. This money can really add up. Who knows, maybe you could even get a full ride scholarship at the college of your choice?
